Molly the three legged horse...

Molly, a grey speckled pony, who was abandoned by her owners when Katrina hit southern Louisiana. Molly spent weeks on her own before finally being rescued and taken to a farm where abandoned animals were stockpiled. While there, she was attacked by a pit bull terrier, and almost died. Her gnawed right front leg became infected and her vet went to the Lousiana State University (LSU) for help. There her leg was removed below the knee and a temporary artificial limb was built. She now tours local schools and nursing homes showing off her new prosthetic leg.

New Orleans, 3 Years after Hurricane Katrina

From the air New Orleans is almost unrecognisable.Clear green fields have replaced washed up homes, flooded streets and the mass carnage that ravaged the city three years ago. When Hurricane Katrina struck on 29th August 2005, it would prove to be the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded. After the initial destruction the resulting water surge left 80% of New Orleans flooded, and devastated the small communities dotted along the surrounding coastline. More than 1,800 were killed.

Winter the Bionic Dolphin

Winter was just two months old when she got her tail caught in a crab trap, and rendered a useless stump, off the coast of Florida. After a long recuperation and a year and a half of hard labor by one of the veterinary world's top prosthetics wizards, Winter became the first dolphin to receive a functional but fake tail, qualifying her as the "world's first bionic sea creature."
